Ok, being that I'm on the plateau to end all plateaus, I figured I'd ask some questions -- maybe get some ideas from you workout gurus.
Today's question:
Is it better to work out to one DVD, say for a week or longer, to really try and build those particular muscles?
I tend to skip around QUITE a lot but I'm wonding if that's hurting me.
I'm a rotational gal. Don't want to chew my popcorn too much on one side...
Some might call that OCD, I call it "rotational" classy, isn't it? :)
Of course, I'd only do the DVD every other day so that I'm not over fatiguing my puny little muscles. That's right, they're puny.
Tell me what you think oh great readers!

I think it is best to alternate cardio and weights. I do 30 day shred, Firm Cardio, You on a Diet, Firm Cardio, 30 day shred. Sometimes I bike on Saturday. As you know the 30 day shred is a killer, but I really like what it has done with my muscles. I didn't get any belly slim down until I added the cardio in though. I am hoping to add in different cardio dvd and then a yoga to replace one 30 day shred.
Oh my - I'm totally unqualified to comment here, but I'll toss my couple of cents in...
To be fair, I should say that I've totally been stuck at a plateau for a while now. I think I *know* how to get past it...just haven't found the mental strength to actually DO it already. I won't bore you with the million and one excuses I have...
My answer to your question - I'd say it really doesn't matter. I think to be healthy, a person has to have a good dose of cardio, a good dose of strength, and a good dose of flexibility...topped with a giant portion of good nutrition.
Some of what I've noticed (about me anyway):
- I should be pushing more with the strength training - truly go until I'm utterly exhausted with trembling muscles...not just until I hit some magic number of reps. That's the way to really build muscle.
- If I work some free weight lifting into my cardio routine, I feel that I get the best total body workout and I don't get too bored with any one thing.
- Food is killer for me. If I can also alternate food days, I see results. What I mean by that...eat a very low calorie day a couple of days a week, and regular calorie days the other days. I can manage the low calorie days when I know they're a short term thing...and in the mean time, I'm really reducing my weekly calorie intake.
- If I have to choose, I'll always choose strength training over cardio. Not because I enjoy it more (I DON'T)...but because it gives me the bigger bang for the buck in long term calorie burn.
So there you go - words of questionable wisdom from a pretty lame source ;-) Take them as you will...
