Weekly Weigh-In

Haven't done a Weekly Weigh-in update for a while, probably because I've been stuck on a dumb plateau for what has seemed like for-ev-er!

So I changed things up, both food and exercise wise, and it's working:

Down 2.6 this week!!!

So ready for my training session tonight! Bring it!!!

Kind to myself: Sleep

If you read my other blog you know that I'm suffering from a little bit of "down in the dumps"... and some of it is situational and some of it is how freaking hot it is, but I know a LOT of it is how TIRED I am.  I have got to get some SLEEP.

I've been trying to go to bed by 9, but then I work night shift.

and I mess myself all up.

And I'm just a mess.

I can't get back to my 9 pm bedtime til' the weekend.
and then I stay up til' like 10.

So, what I'm saying is that I am eliminating naps, and I'm going to be every night by 9 pm.  Unless I'm at work.  Then I won't go to bed until I get home.

Because I like to be safe.

So, here's the questions for you:
  • Do you think that naps help?  I find myself super ornery after them and then I can't sleep at night.
  • What time do you go to bed?
  • What kind of fools work night shift? :)

Getting into the weight loss groove

A good friend of mine is starting back to weight watchers after having a baby.

She really wants me to do it with her, and I REALLY want to.

But I can't.

I'm just not at that "place" where I can do it.  I'm working a lot, and starting back to weight watchers requires a week fairly free of extra commitments.

But I am inspired by her (as I always am, waiving to Becky!}... so I'm taking baby steps.  Last week's step was to start working out again.

My body was mad at me, and I took some time off working out, and I am by no means in my peak physical form now, but I'm going walking on Mondays and Fridays, early.  And on Wednesdays I'm doing a video.  I'm trying to keep the focus on something I REALLY like doing on Mondays and Fridays, so maybe if my friend can't walk I'll do Just Dance or I can always walk alone later on.  I need to keep this fun right now.

BUT, I also am a big believer in how important it is to do weights and build that part of my body as well, so that's what I'll do then.  Last week I did Lindsay Brinn's Shed 5 Fast.  It's a great, and fairly short, workout.

So, this week I'm gonna keep up that schedule, and I'm trying to add water into the routine of the day.  I know it helps flush out all the bad choices I make.  Kinda like repentance. :D

A Real, Tangible Benefit

If you ever read my other blog, you know how I love to save a buck or two.

And I have finally noticed the dollars and cents of losing weight.

Drew's insurance is CRAZY expensive here, and it's not subsidized by the district (except for his portion, which is entirely covered).  So, I have been on the hunt for a plan for me and the kids.  Man, they sure do have a crazy review process, and I was ding'd for having kidney stones when I was pregnant, but we're all fairly healthy and the cost was a lot cheaper then going with the district, because we're healthy.  Sadly, the kids are too skinny, 2 of them had a rate up because they weighed too little.

Better break out the butter. :)

I'm also getting some life insurance, and it's nice to know it won't show that I'm obese.  Also, my blood pressure is a lot lower thanks to the weight loss, and all is well.

Anyway, it's nice to have this whole thing pay off, and not just in the mirror. :)

Small Changes

Ok, most you have started school by now.  Haven't you?  I know you're feeling the get yourself in shape you lazy mom syndrome.

Aren't you?

Well, I'm trying to feel like that, but I'm just out of steam.

So, this week I'm focusing on small changes.  My parents are in town, so it is a bit of a psuedo-vacation.

But I'm trying to eat a lot of fruit.  Mostly because it's cold and delicious.

And we're still in the low 100's every day.

I am excited to go walking as soon as we go lower, but until then... it's fruit.

What's your small changes?

Thoughtful Thursday

People, I'm just not sure this is the season in my life to lose those last 10 pounds.  I mean, I have a good 30 to go, if I'm going according to what my BMI says I should weight, but I'm about 5-10 pounds (depending on the day) from having a normal BMI and I just can't break that barrier.

And that's not to say that I'm working super hard at it.

I'm just trying to make it through.  My life is so great from about 1-3 (aka, naptime, before the kids come home) and I feel like I am on top of my game and my housework and my actual job.

But then 3 pm hits and I'm just floored by these kids and seriously, do I only have 3 because I feel like I have 12 with all the emotions and fighting, and emotions and madness...  Drew's in school and it's marching band season.  I thought I never saw him before, but I was totally wrong....  Then I work today and Saturday....

Anyway.  Do you think that it's always a good time to lose weight?

This isn't a short term deal.  He'll be in graduate school, maybe 3 years, although hopefully less.  Marching band isn't long term... but I do feel really overwhelmed.  I will continue working that whole time, which adds fire to our already overscheduled life.

Except from 1-3.

But it's just too dang hot to work out then.  I am on the search for yummy, lighter fare during that time.  But working out is just ridiculous.  I don't know the last time our high was under 110.

So, that's where I am at.

Thoughts?
